T1 Car Racing Simulation Screenshot Open source 3D car racing simulation

T1 Car Racing Simulation is an open source (GPL) 3D car racing game meant to be executable under both Linux and Windows using the Cygwin emulation layer. If you make it run under some other operating systems, I'd be glad to hear about it. My primary development platform is Linux, but I promise to also test under Windows - at least at release times.

T1 Car Racing Simulation is primarily meant to be fun to play, instead of a full-featured exercise in physics. Expect a solid physics model with a lot of action and some cool graphics. ;-)

Keen to import TORCS code and tracks? The code's all there.

I'm not qute sure what you mean. You can't just "import" the graphics from another game if the engines are too different. I don't know much about TORCS, but I guess the engine has no similiarities to T1's engine whatsoever. Using TORCS graphics would practically mean re-inventing the game.

AH ok. But it'd be a shame not to glean info, technique and code from TORCS, Trigger and the likes. :-)

It would be the shame, if I had anything to learn from it... :))))

Looks good to me. posted by martintt @ 62.30.73.7 on Mar 13 2003 1:24 PM 55555
Graphics are pretty - handling seems nice (although I'd like an automatic gearbox option if there isn't one already) .

Yes it's not really playable yet but the homepage says its unplayable, but what it does, it does quite nicely , got a good chance to become a 5 star game(instead of alpha) sometime

ps - Wouldn't install at first because for some odd reason my SDL.h is in user/local/include/SDL/SDL.h not hard to fix then it worked fine.

An excellent start posted by Anonymous @ 202.37.101.12 on Feb 24 2003 5:53 PM
Downloaded binaries... didn't work. Compiled from source, worked. A good attempt has been made at this car game. It's early days yet. Physics need improving. When hitting a wall the car stops as if the game has frozen. Sometime, this will cause a segfault (SDL parachute deployed). I like the arcade-style sideways sliding action. PLEASE keep developing this.......

Hello, I get this when using the static-bin: src/t1_crs: relocation error: src/t1_crs: symbol __libc_sigaction, version GLIBC_2.2 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference What's the problem?

Sorry, you'll still need glibc 2.2.x. Have you tried compiling it from sources? If you wish, I could mail you libc and libm from glibc-2.2.4, not sure that'll suffice, though...

Cheers, alex.

This game has the "SuperCars" feeling. I really like it. I hope the game won't turn out to be a "simulation" as the name suggests.
This will be a great racing game, eventually. I would give it 4 stars if I weren't anonymous ;)
BTW are you plannig on having computer cars, arcade-mode racing and multiplayer support?

Thank you! Don't worry, I'm not planning to make it a real simulation, at least not in the standard mode :-). In future, as soon as we resolve the incompatibilities that arose shortly before I made this announcement, you'll be able to activate "Vamos" model if you want accurate physics. I'm planning on continuing with the arcade mode.

Other cars, network play, and multiple player support are planed, but probably not coming any time soon. I still have a lot to do with the basic functionality.

Cheers, alex.

I am sorry for giving just 2 stars, but playability is very low. Physics doesn't exist in that game. You ride on track, then bump in edge and car just _stops_. There are problems with graphics: for example z-buffer fighting in very close (!) area. Speed of game is very strange, like with old DOS games on fast machines. Camera is located in bad place. The only good thing in that game is interesting track construction. That's why it's not 1 star. Racing game is very needed in Free Software world, but *please* make it little better.

tried the new static release- whenever i try to run it i get an error: TIFFOpen: textures/newpoly.tif: Cannot open. Problem loading textures/newpoly.tif! I looked at newpoly.tif and it's just a white square with a blue border and a question mark in the middle. Is that supposed to be what it is?

Could it be that you didn't start T1 from the top-level directory? The proper way to start T1 is to say "src/t1_crs" from the top-level directory.

Cheers, alex.

When I start the game, I see no textures. The .tif tiles in the texture directory doesn't seem to be regular tif files, because I cannot view them in any picture viewer. Neverthless the game runs, but I cannot really enjoy it without any texture :)
