Scorched 3D Screenshot 3D OpenGL Scorched Earth Clone

This is a beautiful clone of Scorched Earth, the classic DOS artillery duel game. It's been 3Dified and has a great OpenGL polish around it.

In its simplest form Scorched is an artillery game. Tanks take turns to earn money by destroying opponents in an arena. Scorched attempts to recreate the simple yet addictive game play of the original game, adding amongst other new features a 3D island environment and LAN and internet play.

It is a nice game, especially when playing with friends. But it is also really unstable and crashes all the time. :(

I've played it for a while and I have to admit it is really great. Exactly what i looked for. Nice graphics (especially in the camera mode where you follow the fired missile) and very addictive.

It's great. Very polished, with eye-candy 3D graphics and awesome multi-channel audio effects. I'm glad I didn't rate the game without having turned the sound on just once. Truly amazing work done in this remake.

However, the window drawing kit they're using to draw, for example, the configuration window, looks like from the '90s. It's just an ugly grey mess of poorly rendered and spaced text.

The gameplay does get boring after a while. I don't think it's a fault or perhaps that it should be fixed. The gameplay is exactly the one in the original game. It's in itself a time waster for a bunch of friends. No more, no less. I rate this game in terms of its own goals, and I think it's gone beyond expectations.

exactly why is the travolta called the travolta?

Because its a larger version of the funky bomb, and John Travolta is well known for his role in Saturday Night Fever which contains much funk. Seriously though, that was a weapon that was posted on the forums back in version 37.2 and it just hasn't changed much since I put it in there. It could use a revisit about now. ;)

Glad you enjoy the mod though. There's been quite a bit of development on it the last year or so and its come a long way. Thank Gavin Camp for implementing so many cool features for the modding community to use that aren't exactly necessary to recreate a standard game of Scorched Earth. :)

Damn, lost again. I was certain it was from Battlefield Earth being such a funky bomb.

  Too repetitive ... posted by Draconishinobi @ 68.93.91.18 on Jul 18 2006 7:47 PM 4444
Yeah, it's got pretty good graphics, and lots of different weapons and shields and stuff. But after a while it gets so repetitive and boring. The same scenarios happen over and over again. It's fun, but only for a couple days. Still, it probably deserves 4 stars, or 3 if I'm in a bad mood.

Real big shit! If you believe Scorched Earth was great you should have a look on this f... cool game. Especially the Apocalypse Mod is extremely amusing on LAN Parties to chill out after Quake :-)
