How do you not get killed in a second? posted by uldics @ 80.232.242.61 on May 12 2010 10:36 AM
This game could be fun, but I get killed in one to three seconds no matter what I am and what is coming at me. At the same time I can barely kill one, but most of the time none. I dont believe I am stupid or not able to learn something, to get better, but no matter how many months I play, I do not seem to get better at this game. Where is the problem - everybody except me is having some aimbot or help script?

I love it. Just beware that some matches take forever for someone to win or vote-concede - I was in the middle of a 90-minute match the other day.

The game is free for downloading now...as of 12/09/08. For $10 US, you can upgrade to a premium account. Details are on the S2games website. Seeing as I loved Savage Battle for Newerth, I'm going to give Savage2 a try.

Great game, needs more players. posted by JRPereira @ 76.100.124.173 on Sep 18 2008 3:22 AM 55555
Despite a rough start, Savage 2 has really come a long way. I wish there were more players playing though. Really fun to play when you can get a game going.

I dunno. I didn't find it too bad, but when I ran a game of savage 2 at my LAN with the same bunch of people I played savage 1 with we found it overall less entertaining.

We were only playing in demo mode, so maybe if you pay it magically gets more fun, but I didn't feel it.

Still a reasonable game and well executed concept though

LAN play is the same as the full game except without stats/replays/persistent items.

I also played a lot of Savage1 and it was fun but it had a lot of issues such as one bad player could ruin the game for everyone. Savage2 is more focused on skills and squads than on commanders and while it makes for a very different game I do have more good games than bad at least when there are enough players on to make it fun.

I'm curious what you think would make the game better. S2Games are still considering making some major changes so they might be interested in new ideas.

I agree that Savage 1 was better than Savage 2. In fact, it was much much better, just not in graphics. I'm only giving it 2 stars because it really kinda sucks. I think the balance is all off, the combat system is way too complicated and unbalanced. If only they had focused less on graphics and more on gameplay. The unit strengths are also unbalanced, you can easily get killed by an ent (or whatever it's called), or a dwarf even if you are a legionnaire or predator. The hellspawn are way to powerful and add "whack" to the overall gaming experience. I mean all of a sudden a bunch of big balrogs come and demolish your base in seconds and there was nothing you could do to stop it, in fact you didn't even see it coming. (I wonder if they will have problems because all the units seem to be awfully closely related to the ones in LOTR).

However, the graphics are very nice and the game is very efficient ... thus they get 1 star for each of those.

Nice Game posted by Anonymous @ 12.207.45.59 on Apr 4 2008 2:34 AM
Very nice game. I wound up paying for the full version to continue playing after my 5 hour demo had expired.

When you get down to it, the gameplay is fairly straightforward and simple. Its basically just a standard issue RTS that isn't terribly complicated but with real people controlling each of your units on the ground. I think that can be both a blessing and a curse at the same time heh. If the people are good, its certainly much better than having AI controlling your troops as people can react to attacks and such without having to be told to do so. However, if most of the people on your team are noobs or otherwise unskilled, you'll probably find yourself wishing they were AI's. ;)

Melee combat in the game is one of those cases where the rules are simple and easy to follow, but mastering it requires practice and skill. Regular attacks will land on your opponent if they are not blocking. A block will counter an enemy's attack and stun them briefly leaving them open to your attacks. And you have a counter move which can break an enemy's block but will do nothing to someone who isn't blocking. Its basically rock-paper-scissors but with swords and claws. Each unit usually has some special attacks and such they can use as well which can usually break blocks too. It sounds really simple and straightforward, and it is. It only takes a few minutes to learn the basic mechanics of combat, but actually mastering the controls and learning how to react to situations certainly takes a lot of practice and skill. I find myself getting owned in combat most of the time but I've still been having a good time with it.

There is also an achievement system in place that is similar to the Battlefield series. As you play matches and accomplish certain goals, you can unlock achievements which earn you these 'scratch off cards' that you can scratch off to claim special items to take into battle that will boost your stats and regeneration rates. These items are permanent and you are allowed to own up to 5 of them and can carry any two of them into battle with you at any time. You'll also get two free cards if you purchase the game.

All in all I think this game is really good, I've seen a few attempts to merge RTS and FPS in the past and I think this is clearly one of, if not THE best.

This is a really good game, even though I could only play it at very low settings. The game idea and game play are both excellent, 5 stars!

The system requirements are heavy, though, and they aren't exaggerating about the minimum and recommended requirements either. The game played quite smoothly for me, but that was with a system with the following main components: Intel Core Duo Processor (2.4GHz) 1.5GB RAM NVidia Geforce 8800GT graphics card (256MB)

Yes the game is pretty heavy. On my iMac (in Boot Camp) it ran okay. Similar specs as you, but a worse video card (Mobility Radeon 2600).

  Great fun posted by Klepto @ 80.192.69.2 on Apr 1 2008 3:54 AM 55555
I'm very impressed with this, it's good to see someone doing something interesting with the FPS genre. Games are fast and fun, and even as a new player I find I am enjoying myself immensely. There is some client instability but it's just been released and it doesn't impact too much on playing. There are also a few balance issues but I expect they will be solved with future patches. It's certainly worth trying the demo, and the full game isn't particularly expensive.

Client stability is much better as of patch 1.4.1, it pretty much never crashes now :D

Nice followup for Savage posted by lightspeed @ 98.194.197.54 on Mar 30 2008 9:02 PM 55555
Personally, I liked how the commander in Savage 1 had much more of an impact on the game, but it's easy to understand why they reduced the importance of a skillful commander. It was far too common to see one team pounding on the other because of the commanders. Outside of that, the game looks terrific. It's a bit difficult to learn the basics of fighting, but they did include a practice arena to do this in private. The game seems to move much faster than Savage 1 (smaller maps?) and it's a welcome change from the standard FPS titles.
