Pingus Screenshot Pingus is a Lemmings-like game for GNU/Linux, FreeBSD and Win32.

Pingus has started at the end of 1998 with the simple goal to create a Free (as in freedom, not as in free beer) Lemmingstm clone. The Free, which means you get the sources and are allowed and encouraged to change and distribute them, you basically get everything that I used to create this game. In the years it has grown than quite a bit over the original goal and become something more than just a clone, we have original artwork, a built-in level editor, new actions and a few other features.

If you don't know Lemmingstm, here comes a short introduction. Its a puzzle game developed in 1991 by DMA Design. The player takes command in the game of a bunch of small animals and has to guide them around in levels. Since the animals walk on their own, the player can only influence them by giving them commands, like build a bridge, dig a hole or redirect all lemmings in the other direction. The goal of each level is to reach the exit, for fix multiple combination of commands are necessary. The game is presented in a 2D site view. For more informations you might want to visit Lemmingstm fanpage.

Care to clarify? it should support other platforms as i believe it uses SDL for doing the input and it is ported to OS X and windows so it can't be doing things linux only...

Of course ;) src/input/evdev_device.cpp includes "#include " so there you have many calls of EVIOCGVERSION, EV_MAX, etc... so I gotta a lot of "undefined reference to `Input::EvdevDevice:" why not use SDL Input system?

Love the game, but... posted by Anonymous @ 130.49.36.103 on Nov 11 2007 3:57 AM
I remember playing Lemmings on my first computer, a Packard Hell. I loved it then, so when I saw the Linux clone I was ecstatic. I especially love the environmentalist tie-in (to be relevant to today, probably should have been polar bears, but they're probably too big for such puzzles). However, there aren't any levels past Tutorial Island. I would have thought that with the development progression and ease of constructing levels, harder boards would have already been created and pushed upstream. Alas, I guess I have to wait for the next release, and eventually 1.0.

Nice game and I'm glad to see it's being revived. A couple suggestions to developers. 1. A better explanation of how the editor works. 2. A favorite levels button or part of the menu that is updated by votes of submissions. 3. A recent submissions of levels button or part of the menu that is updated periodically.
