Looks cool, but it's really slow on my GF1 and nvidia drivers. Guess I just don't have the hw? AMD 1.66GHz

I donno ! :)
Raydium (the 3D engine) was tested on many recent video cards, but GF2 GTS was the "lowest" card used (900 MHz Athlon CPU) with something like 20 FPS.
I think multitexturing have a important impact over framerate on GF1: are you ready to test some other versions of the game (without multitexturing-texturing, with a smaller landscape mesh, ...) ?
If yes, mail me at xfennec.at.cqfd-corp.org, with some otheer details, such as driver version, average FPS, console output, ...

A paraponting/paragliding option to glide and catch thermals would be an awesome addition. See how high you can go and how long you can stay up.

Parachute simulation isn't very easy with physics (ODE, here), but this could be an idea.
Have you a more precise idea of this "new game mode" ? (How the player detects thermals, for example ?)

Maybe some kind of meter on screen that increases or decreased (radar-like meter that shows position of thermal?) when near/on a thermal, that and the obvious slight to moderate lift depending on the thermal and proximity to it. I am told the for every 7 meters of horizontal travel, a paraglider loses 1 meter of altitude when not on a thermal. Your local club would give you a more accurate description. They might be able to tell you how the paraglider reacts. I know that when you pull both arms down the paraglider stalls, etc.

This site says the source is available, but I can't find it on your website. I'm not in the habit of running random binaries on my computer, even just as a regular user. Is the source available?

I looked for it, but I couldn't find it. So for now, it's set back to "no". Thanks for pointing out.

Right ! sorry :)
All sources (Raydium, Sky Diver, others tests, Blender integration scripts, ...) are available on WVS, another site of CQFD network: http://wvs.cqfd-corp.org
(I've just uploaded last version of skydiver.c)
Don't hesitate to email me for more informations about compilation (wich isn't so easy).

Can't download on 56k connection, but screenshot looks good. Does it have different angles, as in point of view perspectives? What would be super cool, is if you made an 'above the jumper' point of view, so when you jump out of the plane the jumper's clothes are rippling in the wind, the ground is zooming in, maybe variable heights for jumping? Is that possible or you have any interest in doing such a thing? Can't find any games like that for SDL... Keep up good work :)

Thanks ! :)
Servers where the game is hosted are slow since Happypenguin generates a lot of hits (another mirror is now up), sorry for that.
About First Person view, why not ! It's quiet easy to implement :) Will think to it for next release ! :)

  Nice gfx posted by snyke @ 213.146.113.50 on Feb 1 2004 2:53 AM 333
This game has nice graphics, but I think it's a bit too big for what it does. It's about 6MB - okay I was using the windoze version but anyway.

It's a great game but I think it starts getting a boring if you play it too long, but well give it a try, there's nothing bad about it except the size ;) Good GFX and sound has its prize ;)

2 stars for: the good GFX,
1 star for: the way the game was made. Just looks good.

Well, give it a try!

Try entering the top 100 ! ;)
About the game size, you're probably right, but this includes game engine (linux static binary is 6 MB alone, for example), quiet big landscape, detailed textures, sounds, music, ... Raydium (the 3D game engine) aims bigger projects than this one (New Sky Diver is a test for Raydium's viability).. So, sorry for the game's size (but it was harder to make it lighter ;)

Yes I see. Well if this is only a test game for the Raydium engine which aims bigger games like that, it's okay I think. In the service of the science :P

If it needs to be big, then it needs to be big. Period. Sheesshh I've downloaded files bigger than 200MB via 56 modem. Sure I don't get them downloaded in an instant, but over a few nights I don't mind the wait. Don't compromise on polished graphics and sound just because some 56k user is being anal. If needed, you can always split into two packages (game + music pack). Keep up the awesome work!

Maybe splitting into a datapackage and the program itself can help. So if you upgrade then you don't have to upload the whole graphics again.
