Freepop Screenshot An opensource clone of populous

For those of you who were trapped in a small dark room during the late 1980's and 1990's, or otherwise similarly deprived, Populous is a series of games developed by Bullfrog Productions which created the god-sim genre.

The premise is that you (the player) and your opponent (AI or human) are gods or equivalent deities, and you battle each other using your powers - such as the summoning of natural disasters and the ability to coax the will of your followers - in order to destroy the followers of the opponent. The winner is the god with remaining followers.

  Can't configure posted by Anonymous @ 80.164.74.80 on Feb 28 2005 6:14 PM
Can't configure!
Useing debian unstable

checking boost/utility.hpp presence... yes
checking for boost/utility.hpp... yes
checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking for clanCore-0.7 clanApp-0.7 clanNetwork-0.7... Package clanCore-0.7 was not found in the
pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `clanCore-0.7.pc
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'clanCore-0.7' found

configure: error: Library requirements (clanCore-0.7 clanApp-0.7 clanNetwork-0.7) not met; consider
adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so
pkg-config can find them.

I have removed all clanlib debian packages. Downloaded clanlib ver 0.7.8 compiled and installet in /usr/local/lib (prefix /usr/local/)

If iI do
PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/ ./configure
I still get the abow error!
How do I Proceed?

... and LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib/ freepop to start the client. It would probably be a good idea to set the library path in the .bashrc file to save some typing.

Got it. ./configure LDFLAGS= -ldl then running make solve my problem.

With the updated tiles, it looks a lot better. I hope somebody steps up and helps this guy create better graphics for the people and buildings and any other effects that are needed, because then this game will look great and will have improved in gameplay by the time that's done to the point that it will play great too!

Populus with higher resolution graphics. That really is something to look forward to.

I think being trapped in a small dark room for a decade would actually help one gain familiarity with computer games. It did for me.
