This game is a lot better than 90% of the other RPGs listed here. For all the guys who don't know what to do in town: Talk to the grandma, then come back a minute or so later and talk to the grandma again. Then you'll be able to go on your first quest.

And yes, this is an RPG. You can buy/sell items, talk to NPCs and can level up by gaining experience.

The only problem with this game: some level design issues - sometimes you come to places where you can't get out anymore. And sometime it's dark - but you can make light with the doombringen (somewhat Doom3ish).

  RPG? where? posted by w00t @ 62.57.114.159 on Nov 19 2003 3:42 PM 1
What's so RPGian about this game? The fact that you start in a village where you can buy weapons, armour and potions? (which i havent found the way to buy anything which is not the first item in the list) Or is that old woman who mumbles something in english, without any text (which i can't understand)?

After reading the manual i understood what i had to do past that point, just to find some enemies which won't move a centimeter past their living area and easily killing them standing a bit far. Then after gathering some coloured skulls which open coloured doors in underiluminated corridors (is this a feature of the Quake engine or it's me turning blind? can't my character buy a torch or get one from the wall? i mean, this is an RPG right?) i find a funny enemy which launches rays of fire, i just get to point blank, keep pressing fire... just to get another skull of the _same_ colour as the latest one i got before and finding a switch which surely opens a door to the next level which i couldn't find before getting depressed and typing rm -rf alteria* in my console just after quitting.
</rant>

note: the quake engine "sticks" to the walls when advancing and strafing making this game yet more unpleasant to play (if possible).

It is common to think "fantasy" and say "RPG".

you know, these people made another game with the q2 engine called code red: battle for earth. it had the same problems as this one does: underlit, bad level design, mumbling people, sticky controls...

anyone care to mirror the download somewhere else? I don't want to register to gamespy/fileplanet for sub-par speeds.

The game was Annoyingly Way too dark, Even after adjusting contrast in some areas, I do like how you can kill the animals, although i noticed the sounds failed to load...I think with a bit of tweaking it could be pretty interesting, though i concur with the previous statements that it is no RPG....On a scale of 1-10 i would give it a 4.5 for Pig SLaying, And killing of the cat LOL

And as a quick note, the REAL address of the Quake Standards Group credited for a lot of the source mods is www.quakersrc.org, not the realllly old address linked to from the downloads page :)
