Description: Game data library and tools for several data formats used by old Westwood games

This library is developed mainly with support for Dune 2 data to use by the Doon Lunacy (http://launchpad.net/doonlunacy) project in mind.

The library is none the less written in a generic manner to make it flexible and useful enough for others as well, providing SDL classes, python bindings and a command line tool based on the bindings to handle these data formats.

The library currently supports the following:
    • Archiving:
    • reading and writing of PAK format
    • Graphics:
    • reading of ICN + MAP format
    • reading of CPS format
    • reading of SHP format (for both formats used by Dune 2 demo & other versions)
    • reading of WSA format (for both formats used by Dune 2 demo & other versions and also (untested) WSA 2 format used by later Westwood games)
    • reading and writing of PAL palette format
    • writing to BMP format
    • pixel art scaling using scale2x, scale2x3, scale2x4, scale3x & scale4x algorithms
    • Audio:
    • reading of VOC format
    • reading of ADL format (XMI, C55 & PCS in the works...)
    • several different OPL emulators, hardware OPL & disk writer plugin for midi playback
    • writing to WAV format
    • sample rate conversion using Secret Rabbit Code (aka libsamplerate)
    • Other:
    • reading of text string format used by Dune 2 (ie. CREDITS.ENG, TEXT.ENG etc.)
    • assembly & disassembly of EMC "script" format
    • reading of FNT format for font rendering
    • reading of DOS MZ format & various data structures used in DUNE2.EXE
    • reading and writing of Dune 2 INI format

Description: Run, jump, drag, shove and laser your way up that mountain

TINY&BIG - UP THAT MOUNTAIN

Set in a land, where common physics apply but everything else looks different.
You are Tiny, a little, technophile guy with a ray cutter, a gripping device, a bad habit and a fine attitude towards the world.

But now your nemesis Big stole the only heritage your grandpa left you: A fine pair of white, fine rib underpants and he's surely up to no good. Why else should he climb that haunted, ancient mountain in the desert. Where no one goes...

So load up that raygun and rope device and take your annoying and jabbering backpack to accompany you. It's always been good use to your gramps.

Run, jump, drag, shove and laser your way up that mountain, get back those underpants!

  • Dynamic hatch on environment and in shadows
  • Realistic custom physics

PARPG Techdemo 1 New 13 Mar 10 12:41
submitted by mvBarracudaposted by nath
Category: rpg
Description: a post-nuclear role playing game
PARPG is envisioned to become a post-nuclear role playing game:
  • The game will be inspired in multiple ways by the classics of the golden age of isometric RPGs. First and foremost Fallout (settings-wise) but also Arcanum (quality of graphics) as well as Planescape: Torment (quality of written dialogue).
  • The game will put heavy emphasis on choice & consequence, based on the stats of the character you play, trying to minimize the influence of the reflexes of the player who plays the game.
  • Therefore combat will not be fought in real-time but in a turn-based mode as in the Fallout RPGs.
  • Instead of full 3D flexibility, the game focuses mainly on using high quality isometric 2D graphics. This puts less demands on target platforms and also simplifies game development.
  • The game will be completely written in Python, utilizing the FIFE open source isometric game engine.
  • PARPG is also the temporary working title of the project. We can reconsider this choice once we've assembled a team and worked out the fundamentals especially setting- & story-wise.

FreeCol 0.9.2 Updated 13 Mar 10 10:28
submitted by mpopeposted by nath
Category: strategy
Avg. Rating: 4.534.534.534.534.53

Description: An Open Source implementation of Colonization.

Changelog:

  • The increased native land claims in 0.9.1 have been reverted to the more moderate 0.9.0 behaviour, following comment that this made the game too difficult. This feature will be back in a later release, but only after implementing the feature that at least exempts your *first* colony from having to buy its land (as was the case with the original Colonization).
  • Fixed a serious bug in privateer combat.
